Opinions
Interesting article by pro player Artosis on why he thinks the Zerg got nerfed hard this patch:
In my personal opinion, there's another reason why there are more pro Zerg players than other races: Flexibility.
The Zerg is the most flexible race in terms of unit production, allowing to quickly switch your whole production towards one unit or another, depending on your opponent's choices.
Example: If you're a protoss player and you've just built a couple of Robotics Facility to make some immortals because your Zerg opponent is going for mass roaches.
What happens when your opponent decides to switch to mass Mutas?
1. Your two Robotics Facility become totally useless. You'll have to quickly make extra gateways or stargates to measure up to the production speed of a Zerg opponent. Because ALL of his hatcheries will be able to produce Mutas the very moment his spire is built.
2. To match up the production speed of 2 or 3 hatcheries with a Queen spawning larvaes, pumping Mutas as fast as they can, you'll need to invest a ton of cash into Gateways / Stargates.
3. IF you manage to make those buildings and catch up in terms of anti-air production speed. What happens if your Zerg opponent decides once again to switch back to Roaches? You'll be in trouble once again. Immortals have a very long production time.
This is in my opinion a big factor as to why so many pro players play Zerg.
